The Citizens’ Council for a Better Tomorrow (CCBT) – formerly the Sheriff’s Platform for Communal Harmony, was formed during the communal riots that erupted soon after the demolition of Babri Masjid, way back in December, 1992.
Shri Fakruddin T. Khorakiwala, former Sheriff of Mumbai (1992-93) & Chancellor-Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi is the person who initiated this NGO. He was supported by other eminent citizens who were also members, such as late Mr.Nani Palkhiwala, late Dr. (Ms) Usha Mehta, Mr. Keshub Mahindra, Mr. Julio Ribeiro, Mr. Alyque Padamsee, Mr. S.V. Sista, Mrs. Shabana Azmi, Mr. B.G. Deshmukh, Mr. Jamshed Guzder, Mr. Nalin K. Vissanji, etc.
Legal status:
The organization is registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 and Public Trust Act, 1950 in year 1996. |
